I saw something about a gig a t Kelvingrove Park, FSWL maybe, in August. I'd guess it'll be inthe bandstand where we saw Teenage Fanclub last year on the night of the KC Queens Hall gig, great venue.

It's invite only. Until they panic and need to sell more tickets. They don't advertise who's playing as a result and there's always that danger that Jim Kerr might be there.

I just want another dance with your drummer in the crypt.

That may, or may not, be a euphemism.

Experimenting with single-malt vodka. Dancing to Northern Soul classics. Realising that everyone else has gone home, there's no taxis and you're in the middle of a country estate 10 miles from your B&B.

Nick Nairn took the pressure off everyone by being huckled.

February 27th Uppsala, Sweden

"completely stuck in a lo-fi swamp or mark-saturated music smeared with småvulgär rock"

Not what the Swedish druids would have wanted  :)

on the whole, the reviews seem ok.  The first one you've quoted says its melodic low-key rather than stuck in a low-fi swamp etc. so that seems positive.  But you definitely have to stop smearing everything with smavulgar rock. That stuff is lethal.

The other two are complaining more about the people coming in and out of the bar, and the hardness of the surfaces for accoustics but are complimentary about the music.

"And just this kind of music should be played in them every weekend, for would probably also the Swedish people become a little nicer if they were listening to Scottish folk pop every now and then."

" King Creosote is a fine small band, and Anderson is an unusually lovable man with guitar."

"I find it hard to understand what the amazing fine "Bats in the attic" is really about, but I'm concerned anyway."

There you go.

I work with Swedish people and often think that repeatedly playing them At The WAL would improve their emotional and spiritual well-bring no end.

I am not a member of ABBA.

Tremendous news that you are on your way back to Dublin.

If you have enough hands, would be great if you manage a few "3 on this island" lps along with you.... That will enable me to get round the awkward sterling cheque to the PO box dilemma...

Looking forward to it...

I booked my tickets to see KC at the Kelvingrove bandstand (6th August) on Friday. It's listed as being a performance of From Scotland With Love - does anybody know if this will be accompanied by a screening of the film (or vice versa?) or not?

I also quite fancy the Roddy Frame gig the following night, but not sure I can justify two nights on the trot. Has anyone seen him recently, and is it worth it?

I saw Roddy at the Music Hall in Aberdeen a couple of months ago, outstanding. I have tickets for both nights, what are the chances of the sun shining 2 nights in a row in Glasgow?

THEREMIN.  The original electronic musical instrument.  It works on the principal of capacitive sensing, so the two wands control pitch and volume depending where your hands are compared to the wands, then uses heterodyning oscillators to produce the weird sine wave like tone.

The new KC album launch ;) It was upstairs in the Dreel Halls last night. Short set from Kenny of songs from the new album, a set from Canadian duo Leaf Rapids (including Theramin), drink, chat and sales of the new album. Good night all round  :)

A fabulous way to spend a Thursday night. Fish supper from the Wee Chippie. KC new album set on electric guitar, the excellent Leaf Rapids in the intimate upstairs of the Dreel Hall surrounded by like-minded good friends. Followed by a midnight dog walk on the East Sands at St. Andrews and a journey home that was just about long enough for 2 plays of Smavulgar, perfect.

Thanks to KC and the Leaf Rapids for a great night.

Unaware of the Grip.....oooft

How many sets will you be playing at Glastonbury, which stages will you be playing?

One with full band on the Avalon stage, then another with half band or less at the Crow's Nest.

Did anyone buy the Leaf Rapids album? I've had it playing in the car all morning, some great turns of phrase to match my equally good cornering skills.

I bought a copy, I haven't listened yet though as another album I bought last night is still demanding my attention. Really enjoyed them though, looking forward to hearing the album.

what a cracking night. leaf rapids were lovely. thought they might have been fairly standard heard this kinda thing before sort of stuff but the singers amazing voice/looped guitar/theramin coupled with a bit of slinky bass playing really made the songs soar well above what I was expecting. a very pleasant and interesting surprise. the albums great as well.

someone said to me recently that kc has been on a roll for over 20 years now and this new album sounds just as good as anything. still not sleeping...just beautiful but incredibly powerful at the same time somehow. that sounds like a wanky thing to say but when you hear it (and maybe if you have kids who don't ever seem to slow down!) you'll know I'm right.

if I listened to it now (after a birthday and a ballet show (not mine)) and a bottle of fizzy wine I'd probably hae a wee greet but a smiley one y'know.

A warm evening by the sea. Lovely sounds and songs from Leaf Rapids, and the singer with the electric guitar who was on first was pretty good too and showed lots of promise. What a great night.

Sat down late tonight to listen to Smavulgar, after a very long day. Wonderful stuff. And as for The Long Fade, and Unaware of the Grip- not a dry eye in this house. It's another cracker.

That Leaf Rapids album is cracking, had it on in the car yesterday.  I think Ade Broon of this parish would like them a lot.  Also:

THEREMINS!

Smavulgar is also a big hit, obviously.  What a great night, again!

I picked up a copy before I left as a present for the misses and the two kids who were taking the cash were delighted that it was the 15th copy that they had sold.  Considering there was probably 80ish people there, I reckon that's a pretty good srike rate and a ringing endorsement of how much the audience enjoyed the show.  I do appppreciate fuctifano probably bought more copies of smavulgar but 15 is a decent number.
Title: Re: king creosote in 2015

When I bought a copy the kids were up to £180, so 18 sold at that point, not counting what the kids had creamed off for themselves - they looked the criminal type.
Enjoyed the music and thought the singer was a sorceress - with her looping, and theremin thang, singing and good guitar too.

KC when are you bringing over those hot spaniards?

Will Smavulgar be appearing in the Trading Post anytime soon, or is it only available on merch desks? Next time I am likely to see a merch desk is October at the Barbican, which is a long time to wait for something that I am itching to get my hands on....

Maybe - we're still trying to plan a couple of western island warm ups for said October gig, you might want a hoolie in Port Righ?

Whilst it's only a bonus track, if you don't play My Favourite Girl at Kelvingrove, my 5 year old daughter is going to be fucking raging. I mean...absolutely fucking raging.

A failure to do so could be compensated by a version of Dream A Little Dream Of Me...but don't fuck about with it, or try any of that 're-imagined' shit, or she'll cut you.

'Special guests' - is Jackie Bird going to be there? Could be a deal-breaker...

Seeing as we're playing the entire film soundtrack, to miss this song out we'd have to all slope off stage for a half time pee break

Right. Two pints in. WH on at 8, you at 9.30. We're sitting on concrete blocks out here...my missus has pile issues. Let's move this along, yeah?

And play On Esther's Planet. People will think you're a maverick for deviating from the soundtrack.

And smile. It's a lovely night and good to be alive.

Off to Festival Number 6 this weekend. Was sold by the venue (one of my favourite places) and by the prospect of seeing King Creosote *and* Grace Jones. Plus some other folk. But it looks like there might be a KC/Grace Jones clash (in terms in timing). Say it aint so!

I got the news yesterday that they have withdrawn all leave for Thursday so we are gutted that we can't make Kenny's gig on The Reaper tomorrow night.  I've let Jen know but there might still be three places available that weren't a few days ago.  Thought I would give you all the nod just in case it was already sold out when you tried before.  Jen may well have reserves waiting in the wings but get in touch with her at the museum just in case.

We are gutted that we can't go but I'll be consoled that you fine people will be able to take our places.
