Is it tomorrow that's yet actual day? Hey It's a birthyear anyway and having been through it ourselves 50 isn't the big change some say it can be.  It's fun or at least, it's  as much fun as you make it.  Have a fantastic year Kenny and we'll try and be there for 1/50.  Happy thoughts!

A treat indeed!
That must be the first time I've been at a kc gig and had a full Scottish breakfast at the same time. Both were superb  ;D

Lino sounds like it could be as good as whatever your fave kc album is. Aye, that good  ;)

what a lovely afternoon. if you want my advice (who wouldn't) get along to these 50 gigs. even surly children kind of enjoyed it (although they would never admit it).

Does this mean there will be a systematic journey through the back catalogue, more epic than Sufjan Stevens' 50 States Project?
And a question for the statisticians: at what point did the number of KC solo albums surpass his age?

#2 Thursday Feb 16th East Neuk Hotel, Crail, 8pm admission FREE (apparently the bar takings are partly mine so drink like fish, folks)  :)

Well someone has already hacked our facebook page to say we're giving away free pies during the 6 nations games, so someone divvying up the bar takings is about normal.  We thought it was the Russians, but maybe it was closer to home  ;)

Incidentally, we honoured the free pie hack!  That's the kind of admirable, stand-up folk you're dealing with here.

Rain Weekend meets Hamilton

Argh, probably my two favourites, and would dearly love to see Rain Weekend played in full, but I'd be a notable absence from my daughter's birthday party at the same time. Drats, but I do hope everyone who goes has a great time.

Still have to get confirmation but just seen a sign on the Crail road by Kilrenny saying the road will be closed this Saturday and Sunday so allow a bit extra time for possible diversions if you are headed to the ENH on Sunday to hear Rain Weekend / Hamilton on Sunday afternoon.
Title: Re: 50
Post by: Cameleon on Thu, Mar 02, 2017, 15:49 PM
Fife Council might be trying to Rain on KC's Weekend but that's not going to happen.  Road closure is confirmed by Bankhead Farm until 7 pm but diversion is as follows if you are coming from Pittenweem direction

The alternative route for vehicular traffic is via A917,
Crail Road & St Andrews Road, Anstruther, B9131,
B9171, B940, St Andrews Road, High Street, Westgate,
Anstruther Road, Crail, A917 and vice versa.

What a great afternoon we had yesterday, great brunch, then Kenny in excellent form sang all of Rain Weekend and Greetings from Hamilton Canada, giving us an insight into the background behind every song. He set the scene with a framed photo of him and Reporter taking pride of place.  Good to see Paul Savage and Louis from Admiral Fallow there. Louis gave Kenny a present of a Hibernian football hat so Kenny got Louis up to sing they did Shake it off together.  There was audience participation with us singing along to All over Caroline. He also had the CDs for sale what a hoot for those who made it to the gig. Cheers Kenny for great day oot!

What a great night number 4 was! Kenny performed covers of other Fence performers so we were treated to Lone Pigeon, Gummi Bako, Pip Dylan and HMS Ginafore songs. As usual the stories were hilarious particularly liked the one about Kenny having his wallet pickpocketed and Stephen taking the guys glasses off and demanding he gave the wallet back.  This of course happened in America and it was a huge black guy he stood up too.  They both of course were very drunk at the time because no one in their right mind would have attempted to do such a crazy thing and they got the wallet back minus money and recipes.  The guy got his squashed up glasses back too!
Super hero Stephen!

I think we're going to try and bring our Easter holiday a day earlier to make it to this one. I wondered if anyone could advise how early we might need to get there for a seat, or to get in even? Just to help us plan our travels.

Also - simply out of curiosity - are the evening shows taking the same 2 album format as the weekends, or is it completely different?

Hey Kenny and everyone! New member here. KC has become my absolute new obsession, having stumbled across Melin Wynt and am now devouring the back catalogue. Came to see you a couple of weekends ago with Heidi and I think I have a bleary memory of interviewing you in Ogstons for the St Andrews student newspaper many, many moons ago.

Hoping to come to tomorrow night's gig too. Is it ok to bring my wee daughter, 11? I promise she won't start fights, or get too drunk.

I'm driving from Mallaig to Cardiff on the 7th.  A detour via Crail may just about be possible, if ill advised, but does anyone have an idea of likely timings at the hotel?

Well, it's starting at 3 o'clock.     Lavinia?  You'll know.

By the way, in case it hasn't been noted, KC is doing a Tuesday gig at the neuk hotel - fundraiser for injured sojers.  One of the regulars' son was killed in action in, I think, Afghanistan.  He managed to sweet-talk, or browbeat KC into playing.  So music, prizes and merriment with a core of melancholy.  Chilli to be served to stave off that North Wind.  Come along do!

Oh my, pack your tissues folks - I'll eat my hat if he doesnt play another of my favourites, 'Unaware of the Grip'. There wont be a dry eye in the house. What a lovely thing to do for the family, wish I could make this one.

Concert 8 last night, was an ANZAC fundraiser in ENH Kenny did some cover songs associated with Australia and New Zealand the highlight was Waltz sing Matilda sang with real feeling and passion.  Second half we were treated to some of Astronaut meets Apple man and From Scotland with love and a brand new song which he composed the day before. Well that's as much as I remember but it was another great night - even managed a wee dance.

Concert 9 on a sunny afternoon in Crail about 30 of us there, great stories and singing with Captain Geeko helping second half. Kenny sporting his moustache and safety pin earring sang lots of favourites from both albums and a brand new one Blue Marble, even got a rendition of Paranoid the rock classic, maybe a wee taster of what's to come on his next no requests night.  As I seem to be psychic just letting you know!  Thanks for the great afternoon it was worth the trip for those who came I am sure, some folk were even getting photos taken with Kenny and Geeko at the end.  Geeko should grow a moustache too what a pair they would be then with their French ticklers! Oh la la!  Johnmac you were missed but Iain will give you a more detailed report of songs sang as I am no good at that but I did have a pen and old receipt which I donated to the cause.

Great night. last night in packed wee hall. Good to speak to you again too Marion! The Malabu tablet was taken to Ullapool and eaten during rehearsals and it was throughly enjoyed too Kenny told us all. As a duo they worked their magic and the twin accordions sounded fab. Will try and get the set list as I am rubbish remembering although they did do Grace Darling but that only sticks in my head after Iain thought it was grey starlings last week and of course Blue Marble which I knew he would play lol!

Speed Bonnie Boat today on the way across I hope.

Saturday afternoon on Tanera Mor was a great afternoon.  The boat trip over was lovely, the island only has a few houses and a cafe, so we were so lucky to be able to go to a concert there.  The local black Labrador also made an appearance twice, as did a wasp which stopped the music until Karen caught it and took it outside.  We all sang along to Star of Hope and The Island and did not want it to end as it was a terrific couple of days and the weather stayed dry until we sailed into Ullapool harbour when the heavens opened (made for some cracking photos though!)  Pity the Tanera Mor concert had not been today (Sunday) as we could have made an afternoon concert but we had difficulty obtaining accommodation so it meant we had to come home and miss the last concert tonight.  Well done Kenny and Mairearad for all the organising of the events and fingers crossed we can do it all again next year.

Midnight Mexican standoff with mahoosive deer & her friend 5. A stay at a Scottish (Bates) Motel where no-one can hear you scream (having the name Marion did not help with the very uneasy shower experience) Great fun & amazing music (as always) so thanks to KC/MG  :) Any chance Tanera could be an annual thing??  8)

Great gig yesterday afternoon, with a change from the normal Sunday format of 6 songs from  3 albums, the song counter wasn't on display at all.

We had 3 each from Wednesday, Disclaimer & That Might Be It Darling, then in the 2nd half we had an airing of Glass D'Erpeace, which was stunning. Finished off by Saffy Nool and Curtain Craft. The accordion riff in Saffy Nool had been my weekend earworm so I was particularly delighted to hear it in all its glory.

Another great gig, just 39 left to go!!

Concert 13 on a sunny day in Crail enjoyed by a select few with KC, Des and Geko as usual we had songs from two albums. It was interesting to learn it was a text from Jen that inspired one of the songs off They flock like Vulcans, as girls used to appear looking for a younger KC and would be disappointed he wasn't what they expected, the stories were great and we had a fab time with plenty of sex on the beach (KC new drink of choice)  and a wee dance to finish. Where else can you get such good entertainment for a £10?  Two sets of 9 songs although we did have a few extras added on and he made some up too!  Thanks to all for a great afternoon and good to see Dubster who was not feeling very well there.  KC on home turf up close and personal, not to be missed!

Gig 14 in a hot and sweaty ENH last night. A packed bar were held in equal parts enjoyment and bemusement by the Alice Through the Phillip Glass 'pretentious'. 'avant garde' first half. I rather enjoyed it, some dreamy melodies with the kitchen sink drama backing  had shades of Public Service Broadcasting. Add into it KC's high-brow freestyling and you had yourself an intriguing 45 minutes.

Set two was a greatest hits set, Month of Firsts, Third Swan, Camels, Not One Bit Ashamed, Bubble et al. Any night where you are in a pub listening to those tunes is guaranteed to be a better night than 99.99% of those who aren't there are having.

Great night with Kenny and Des and lots of equipment for the first half which was very funny to watch folks faces as Kenny put on a posh voice and told stories singing about his day. I was a bit worried when he told us he took his 3 year old on the Walzer and he really had to keep a tight grip of her!  Equally hilarious was when he finished his set and opened his eyes and said - oh your all still here! Some folk did go as it obviously it wasn't what they were expecting to hear.

Second half was back to some of his greatest hits and considering it was free entry, what great night although you still get folk wanting to blab and Kenny made that worse in first half by having backing tape of folk talking.  Forgot to ask Kenny what was written on his hand at Tynemouth have to wait till number 15 to ask that hopefully I will remember to do that.

1. 3 year old on the Walzer?

Safe as milk - the outgoing dad was carrying a younger, albeit bigger, child. We've been on again, proper spinning this time, and I've felt queasy for the past 20 hours so we're giving it a miss tonight. I hope that's not the RSPCC van parked along there ...

2. backing tape of folk talking?

Alice Through The Looking Glass, as essential to our pretentious set as Philip Glass.

3. what was written on his hand at Tynemouth?

The chorus lyrics for Surface. Only Hannah remembers them in the right order (I should've known to write them on the inside of my forearm) the joke being that a'b'dy with the vision of a hawk was more than welcome to sing along.

When we were in Florida, touring the theme parks, I could go on any and every roller-coaster, but felt sick for days having had to go on the spinning tea-cup things that are meant for small kids. A turn on the Waltzers would have me lying in a darkened room for a number of days.

There wasn't a mention of Glen however, we were treated to songs from The Burns Unit and Bound of the Red Deer first half, then some 80s covers which had us all singing along.  Kenny was on his man drinks with a freshly shaven head which has confused his daughter and he has to wear a hat when she is about as she gets a bit scared of him.  We all sang happy birthday to Ian at half time and cake was distributed in the hot and sweaty ENH, well done Kenny, Andy and Des for another great night of entertainment.

Number 18 and we were transported to the ENH stadium and covers of Coldplay, Roxy Music and Tears for Fears.  Any doubts about the choice of material were instantly dismissed and the first set had everyone smiling.  Nothing could have prepared us for the very special guest act for part two as Cleo, Andrea and Desdemona swished up to the limelight.  Queen Cleosite and The Kwaingettes dressed to the nines with an arm waving set of female covers and culminating in Nothing Compares to U.

Absolute Magic.

Had a blast on Thursday night, couldn't have enjoyed it more but that might be the Eden gin talking. I'll try and post some photos of the gorgeous girls that played after Kenny's set when I dig the camera out of my bag. Actually got to see a bit of Crail and Cellardyke on this trip and finally visited the Fisheries Museum. It's like a pilgrimage to Graceland but with more crab sandwiches.

you can't upload a photo, there's nowhere to upload it to - you can only post a link to it on another site, photobucket or facebook or somesuch other teenagery place.
Modern life is rubbish.   The internet was much better back in the sixties.

um, yes you can. You just need to copy the BBcode on Flickr (and obviously choose a small size, which i failed to do..)

Wot I said.  You can't upload to the Hub,  only post a link to another site - in your case Flickr.   Get with the program, you un-nerdy types!

Deadyankee, your link is fine.  Very spooky photo, excellent

Concert 19 was great and we even had Kennys daughter Beth there and she sang a song with him. Great wee story about Berlin and the first person he spoke to, which had us all laughing.  Next one is on a Wednesday so put the 25th in your diary for concert 20.

Concert twedenty was songs from the year 93 the year Geeko left the band, which he was continuously reminded of throughout the evening.  Good crowd considering it was a Wednesday and change from the usual Thursday which also meant it was pie night instead of burgers.  We had many songs the first half that even John had not  heard and some hilarious stories - Leslie from Leslie being one of the best.  We all had to give in our attendance record books - some had not done it!  Chaz insisted he had been at everyone even with his nuts hanging out - he must have been well at the back at that one as I can't say I noticed that!

Yes.  I was sat at the back with Chaz that night.  He was sat very carefully with his nuts resting on the bench wearing oversized jeans. Poor sod.  He got himself discharged early from the hospital so he could make it to the gig.

Great news for all fans of live music.

The Canadian has gone!!!!    We're free.     You can pull the pins out of her effigy and put them back in your pincushions.

Turn up the volume.   Number 11 is called for! Captain Geeko can knock the stuffing out of his bongo from this day forth.

Roll on December!!

And many thanks for all the support we have received from hubbers during that winter of discontent.

Landlord should have evicted her ages ago!  I pity her new neighbours as she will cause trouble where ever she goes I am sure!

21 was well attended this afternoon, although some folk were nursing hangovers.  Kenny was on the cocktails with Des accompanying him, he even threw in a few requests at the end for some folk who had travelled quite a distance to come and see him. What a great way to end the weekend.

22 the last covers night, as in the New Year it's new rules.

We were treated to a very organised set with Des, Geko and Kenny spreading themselves out a bit more. First half was covers of Gummys  set at Neepso so we had a bit of Dolly, Bowie and Jesus knows ( or Kennys Nose) second half Bealtes songs it was another great show which was well attended although there were some women who were out for a blether rather than a listen in the corner.
Now for the 23 shows in December can't make them all but since they are all the same no need to tell you all what is being played.

Devastated to not being able to make it to Crail last night.  Ian told me about the Beatles covers when I saw him this morning.  What a way to finish this leg of The 50.  Is it possible to deliver Psalm Clerk in 23 ways?.....Oh Yes.  There's the Disco version!  The Salsa Remix! The Dave Clerk Five!...... Boom Bang a Kwaing!  The Psalm lies down on Broadway! Hunting High and Creosote! Jesus and Mary Clerk with Geeko just on one snare!  Bring it on.  You may be crazy Kwaing but we're just as crazy to support you any way we can!
