Hiya,
Does anyone know if bairns can attend the weekend shows and if they need tickets? We will be visiting Edinburgh the weekend of 16 Dec so we could pop over for the Saturday 3pm gig but would have a 6 year old and a moody teenager in tow.
Thanks.

There have always been children at any of the East Neuk Hotel shows I've been to this year. Don't imagine the December shows would be any different.

Hello - bairns can attend for free, but make sure you grab your grown ups' tickets soon for the weekend of the 16th is a popular choice, cheers!

If you are coming through to the East Neuk for weekend 9th and 10th for Psalm Clerk' 23 , The AIA has its All Ages Cafe in the Dreel Halls on the Saturday morning and it's also Bowhouse Food Weekend at Bowhouse, St Monans.  Check them both on Facebook. And of course there's Stephen's AIA fund-raiser at the Dreel Tavern on the Saturday night. Details elsewhere on The Hub.

Well the first of 23 was fun, only for a pound, Kenny had some of us up dancing and he even had an old Polaroid camera to take an instant reminder of the night.  The competition was won by a Bulgarian girl (prize was a cassette of first fence recording) she then had to sit and hurl abuse in her own language at Kenny during a song,  I might add Kenny thought she was perhaps Spanish.  Managed to buy one of the special double CD sets of KC greatest hits for £25.

A cracking start to the residency. A fine rendition of the Psalm Clerk in front of a boisterous crowd, including some faces I haven't seen for a while. KC getting deliberately sworn at in Bulgarian was a highlight.

Saw them in the Ship last night they were all a bit subdued!  Concert 2 had an interval so we could all go and see Santa arrive on his dog sleigh and the Christmas tree lights switched on. Andy had a serious hangover he was about passing out while playing with his back to the radiator so the fresh air and mulled wine helped.  Kenny managed to get a Frenchman to hurl abuse at him although the last insult was Roast Beef said in English,  wish he said whatís your Beef!  Photo was of everyone but mainly a party of women resplendent in Christmas novelty ware.

The first three gigs gone and what can we say ? Loved the gradual upgrading from dictaphone to melodica to sma' accordion (complete with glamorous 'Debbie McGee-style' assistant); Fully expecting a barrel organ to appear by around the 18th...
It was great to catch upp with friends old and new in the East Neuk at the East Neuk. Getting to witness the 'count-up' to the tree lights being turned in while Santa's huskies were going radge round the corner was a fine thing.
'Guess The Time' competitions. 'Megan-tinis'. The 'as-we-watched' lyric writing to 'Who Did You Kill On Your Way Up'. Linguistic abuse in three different languages. The full and frank explanation of the tale behind 'Love Your Present'. The darkly thrilling rumour that semi-legendary 'post-op rock' titans The Holy Crail may appear some time in the distant future to an audience of none....
These are the things that make for great memories. Thanks to one and all, especially Kenny and all at the ENH for a belter of weekend. Only wish we could have stayed for the next twenty!
And the new rule is: "Two Out; One In".
 Love to all Al&Ester X  ;D

Yes great to see you both again hope you had a safe journey home to Mull it was a great weekend.
Some other highlights have been, day 3 Sunday and Ian deciding to have a dance with me which he called the Sunderland swing in honour of the guys on the first night. Kenny also was given abuse from two women in German he said he had a one night fling with her which she denied, wish I knew what she said! Day 4 whiskey Stephen resplendent in his wolverine hat what an entrance that was.  Wee girl wanting to sing in the microphone but no was really was really too sure of the song so she gave up. Locals coming in after the first half and conducting a meeting in the corner I had to shhh them.  Kenny got abuse from another Kenny in Italian it wasnít Kenny Drew but there were 3 Kennys in the room so the photo captured that. Never a dull moment!  ;D

Day 5 had us all treated to birthday cake as it was Gavins birthday, lots more dancing and I shouted some Klingon abuse at KC although there was not as big a crowd to witness it.   Day 6, we now have some stage props,  a standard lamp with a Christmas sock. KC has asked us to contribute some decorations each day so it becomes more festive.  Just me and Iain up doing the Sunderland swing to not one bit ashamed which is apt. I won the timed competition made up for not getting a prize for my Klingon the night before.  It all ended with Kenny giving us a rendition of Oh holy night which was just magical with that Christmas sock scene.

Psalm Clerk number 8 and yet another wonderful night with KC augmented this time by our very own Murph from The Magic Tones...Des Lawson!  Captain Geeko was granted a night or two off to strut his stuff in Glasgow and swap his Djembe for some headbanging at an Uli Jon Roth gig in Dundee on Saturday.  Des added some beautiful fills which helped transform the night into melodic magic.  Des and his timekeeping was also the subject of the evening's What's the Time contest.  The evenings tirade of German insults was probably the fiercest yet with KC almost unable to get a word in before the next onslaught which earned our volunteer a copy of fnc23 itself.

It was good to see quite a few new faces too so be ready to welcome more new members to the Hub very soon.  Unfortunately there were some noisy punters who obviously weren't there to enjoy the gig but the banter from KC rose above the background as we learned his family Sea Queen history and of his previously unknown skill of knowing how to measure kilts!

Our encore for the evening was an emotional singalong of Wild Mountain Thyme followed by a deeply moving finale of Nothing Compares to U in honour of Chaz's Dad, whose wake was earlier today.  It was his favourite song and there were tears in many an eye.

I'm sure Lavinia would have been able to describe the night better than me but all I can say is that we wish you had all been there with us.

Roll on tomorrow!

Saturday was really busy and the Italian abuse was the best yet she got a copy of psalm clerk for it.  The night before it had been a bit rowdy through in the bar, apparently someone was head butted and a lady collapsed in the toilets so Kenny told us, it had been Chazs dads funeral so the wake was happening, I took a night off and missed all the action.  Sunday's set had Captain Geko back who was a bit deaf after his hard rock concert and with Kennys deaf left ear and Des deaf right it was a funny combo. Some lovely wee Chritmas decorations appearing and we had quite a few kids in, one had a pair of headphones on as he was playing a game and shouted out a few times when he needed his dad to do something on his tablet which was quite funny.  Kenny decided not to do the abusive one which for David's boys was a big disappointment as that was their favourite on the CD he had made them listen to previously, so they went through a pad of paper drawing masterpieces instead. Hope they got their chips afterwards!  Not back till next weekend unfortunately hopefully some other hubbers will post updates.

Day 10 was a real treat. Stand out songs for me were spy stick, not one bit ashamed, such fine deeds and snakes from single socks. The  chat between songs was good. Got my photo taken for the Polaroid collection and bought one of the limited edition double CD albums (it has been put away for Christmas). Finished the day off with a tasty fish supper before the drive home. Cheers KC. Hope the rest of the shows go well.

Day 12 - And then there were 4. PHa11 joined the KC, Geeko, Des ensemble last night and what a treat it was, the addition of the cello adding another layer to a set that is maturing with each performance.

The wholly unexpected arrival of Scarlett Johannson, filming an advert for Louis Vuitton at Crail harbour, took everyone by surprise. KCís refusal to play her Love Life because it wasnít on Psalm Clerk unfortunately led to a swift, and I would say, divaesque departure.

The rest of the set passed without incident but with an air of Ďdid that really happen?í pervading in the room

Saturday afternoon session 16 was ace, with fans from London travelling up to see the show, great to see you again and well done winning the competition.  We had some Kenny virgins (of the music kind) with us who were enthralled. Sunderland swinger Ian Whistler Gilmure was another musical addition to the band.  Paul on the bar lost some brownie points when he started throwing chocolate mints to his wife. Mulled wine and mince pies went down well at the interval.  Roll on number 17.

Hey Lavinia (and others!), it was a great weekend with some fabulous memories. Lovely to see familiar faces again.

#15 was a cherry brandy fuelled bombastic set finished in some style with a phenomenal Taylor Swift cover. I genuinely didn't expect to be waking a little bleary-eyed on the Saturday humming one of her tunes.

#16 was indeed ace and the mulled wine/mince pie half time refreshments were most welcome! Ginny had me up dancing for Spysticks. I definitely don't have the moves to match the bootiful tunes. Incredible location and scenery. The weekend could only have been better if it lasted longer!

See y'all soon and best wishes to all we met. Special thanks to kc and his fellow musicians. Really twas magical.

Hi Seldomlight hope you got back safe and sound.  Concert 17 was busy and we also had Gordon on the double bass so it was a five piece and what a treat it was.  What great value for money these concerts are.  Good to see Cat with her wee dog Boston up from London and glad she found him after his runabout in St Andrews.   A few extra songs at the end included Largs and Shake It which had a few of us up dancing.  Mulled wine and mince pies at the break followed by a celebration chocolate passed around in a bowl (health and safety).  Tomorrow stovies is included in the price!
It just gets better and better!

Gig 18 last night and we had full on drums, several additional songs including John Taylor, Doubles Underneath, Homeboy and more dancing😃
Love how this has grown, how different the songs sound now and how each night is so unlike the night before as the participants and audience come and go.
I couldn't really imagine how playing the same album each night would pan out but obviously KC could.

It just gets better and better music wise and food wise!  Although last nights guess the time was changed to guess the bride we had to guess who in the band was happily married and what his wifeís name was.  Needless to say no one got it right and we had to have another go with KC providing some of the letters.  Well done Karen for winning a great prize!  We now have quite a lot of audience participation - someone on the counter doing the cuckoo verses I just donít know how Kenny manages it, it must be punishing on his vocal chords although itís fantastic to listen to.  Iain on the whistle although he isnít there tonight so he has passed it on to Karen so she will have to practice to reach the professional standard Iain has reached.  The Sunderland swingers dance and singalong to not one bit ashamed.  In addition we are perfecting the slow clap and walk forward to declare bravissimo after Lisa Minellies dressing room which has added another element.  Last night he even sang please donít go take me with you (donít know what he is going to call it as itís not on any album yet) with the band think I heard that when he was in the safari lounge and it was mainly electronic and thought it was going to be on the glassderpiece and was annoyed it wasnít needless to say it deserved me dancing along to it.  So if it and Blue Marble are on the next album itís going to be a belter. He also did one of Pip Dylanís songs to me and Whisky Stephens delight, we also found out Stephen is bringing his records along on Saturday after the show so we can continue the dancing. What a great month this has been!  Missing our pal John Mac I know he is with us in spirit and he will still be thinking about us all on the 23rd even although he has to try and focus on his daughters wedding!

You would have won in the first round Paul had you been there, you will just have to gaze in amazement at Karen's poster which has lots of autographs then covered in sticky backed plastic and stuck onto a bit of that insulating board that you have to wear special gloves to touch.  See what you missed!

I would think it's sold out as there isn't much room left for folk once the band takes up half the room but you could phone the hotel and see if they know.

Fantastic noise emanating last night from the psalm-a-thon with cello, double bass, keyboards and C Geeko on drums.  Loved the hard, bright guitar sound mixed with mellow string sounds. marvellous.

Last night we had the addition of a violin, electric guitar and harp all sounding fantastic.  Tables are being pushed to the side for the final gig, theses songs have just got better and better over the course and just wish we could have an updated album as it would knock the socks off the original one.  Just annoying when you go along and there is still folk who want to talk loudly through the performance even when you put them straight in front of the band, why not wait till the song finishes before you need to chat! Karen did a fine whistle rendition in Iain's absence and Marion was on the counter for the cuckoo chorus 23 today - KC will go cuckoo after it!  Sad that this has had to end its been epic! 😊

What a month itís been and the finally was exceptional.  We were treated to a great afternoon of fun and frolics in the hot and sweaty East Neuk Hotel.  KC had asked some of the regular attendees to a dinner afterwards with Christmas carol singers. We even had a special cake for the occasion. Whisky Stephen played some of his fancy music, then we were treated to another set from the band didnít expect that but we were all up dancing around to it, indeed I think I have damaged ligaments but it was worth it.  Great big thanks to the band for the music, Paul and the ENH staff for looking after us so well but most of all Kenny for pulling it all together itís been superb. X

Absolutely....As usual Lavinia you have voiced the feelings of us all.  And Czefski's words of thanks on our behalf last night too.  I'm sorry I missed the final finale but to spend the day in such wonderful company at one of the finest gigs I have ever attended is a moment in time I will always treasure.  Throughout the year we have been treated to updates on so many wonderful albums and covers culminating in 23 variations of Psalm Clerk with every variation as fresh as the first and growing each day.  Kenny said that when it came to choosing the finest musicians to perform for us it just couldn't get better than the treat we had on this final night....So, for me,  Best KC gig of the year?  Well, it had to be number 23!  Thanks KC and thanks to all my wonderful Hub friends.  For those of you fortunate enough to share the night and to all of you out there in the AETC who were at the gig in thought and spirit.  Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

I would like to say a big thank you to Kenny and the band for 2 totally different and magnificent experiences.

Went to gig 13 on my own and got in with Iain and Marion for a good laugh and an intimate gig, thus the famous flive tag. Also won guess the time prize and bought psalm clerk album which has been on constantly in car since. Also got planet eggz and radge weekend which are cool low fi albums and brilliant in the collection.

Brought missus and kids along to gig 17 when band had expanded to 5. Kenny took time to talk to my boys and played largs for my eldest. The set was brilliant and the family loved it. Tis what December and Christmas is all about.

Made to feel very welcome by the staff of enh, Kenny and the boys and also the other KC fans (clearly very loyal and pretty hardcore).

I will be at many KC gigs in the years to come and will hopefully continue with and make some new friendships.

Hope everyone has had a great christmas.

Cheers

David

Hello all. Congratulations to KC for pulling this off.

I managed up to 2nd (counting up to Xmas light switch on), 4th (where's the budgie?), and 10th (my wee boy causing chaos with his headphones, sorry!).

I'd have loved to have made it up to another show or two, but this month has also taken me to Mogwai, Malcolm Middleton and Withered Hand.

A month of so much good music, so much fun.

Thanks again to KC, and I'll see you somewhere in 2018!

My daughter is very keen on drama and in March I took her to audition for a film. It was not a glamorous experience. The office in Clerkenwell was a bit of a building site and we had to climb the narrow stairs to the top floor in pitch darkness. Once safely inside, there was a lot of waiting around and, eventually, the casting agent appeared, sporting a shiny tracksuit. He spent ten minutes with my daughter, who was given a couple of attempts at the scene she had been asked to learn. She felt it went well but was a bit underwhelmed, and said it was not what she was expecting. She was told to chase them if we hadnít heard anything after two or three weeks. We haven't, so she has done, but still hasnít heard back.

Anyway, after reading that the director had caused some controversy by saying that his native country was a racist place, my daughter did some googling to see where the film was up to, and was rather surprised to discover one of the names now attached to it:

In the (admittedly rather unlikely) event that the stars align, I would naturally give my seat at the premiere to KC...
