Mairearad Green might look laid back and smiley when playing the squeezebox, but when it came to our "Star of Hope" collaboration she absolutely insisted that I try to get into the mindset of the Minch trawlerman. I must've misread the communiqué for, with the kind assistance of the Fisheries Museum, I turned up at her Glasgow West End studio in the full garb of a late 19th century fisher lass. Mairearad took one look at my bandaged fingers and said "now we've solved the mystery of how you manage so many bum notes on your own accordion thank f#ck I only asked you to sing!".
