The Alphabet Runs Right From A - Z
« on: Tue, Dec 04, 2018, 12:59 PM »
I got sent this mix a couple of years back, but I never got the reveal. Can anyone help me identify a couple of songs? All Scottish acts I think.

R        "may I have the pleasure of your hand beneath this dance"
"I don't have an option, I don't know the time" (female lead vocals)

S        "he's playing the subbuteo, recording hits on the radio, he's dreaming of a stereo"

T         "he's the cream for the cat, he's a walk in the park, he's a rebel on the run, and he's stolen my heart" (female lead
            vocals)

Z         "In the sea, while I skip, on the dark ground, on the flat side of my aspirations"  (could be The Zephyrs)

Quick work! Thanks for that. I've wondered who that was for ages.

Life Cycle of a Falling Bird is the album that song comes from. Brilliant LP.

Nice one! I don't think I'd ever have got that one. Thank you.

So all I'm missing is the last track on the mix..........Z

Here's some more lyrics

In the sea, on a skip, on the dark ground, or the flat side of our aspirations, inshatterable hearts,
Tonight it's dark, when we launch into the air, who knows where it lands
In 50 flowers, or 50 years, with a pair of reddened eyes, or two .......broken ears, oh souvenirs
what will you call me, when our time is through, will you live beyond me, or will I look up to you,
who's to say, why should we care, in the morning of our day.

Z is 'Where It Lands' by the godlike genius of Zoey Van Goey, from their album  Propellor vs. Wings. Both their albums are wonderful, but they are sadly no longer with us. Rachel Sermanni is also a godlike genius.

What were the rest of the tracks? The ones you didn't know are good.

This is the complete mix and I never ever did find out which Hubber sent it to me. ( maybe if he reads this post he will reveal himself)

1 Aberfeldy - Heliopolis by night
 2 Belle & Sebastian - I didn't see it coming
3 Cornershop - Good to be on the road back home again
4 Dexys - Nowhere is home
5 Ethiopians - Train to Skaville
6 Frank Turner - Wessex boy
7 Goodbye Mr Mckenzie - The rattler
 8 Harry J Allstars - Liqidator
 9 Isley Brothers - It's your thing
10 Japan - Don't rain on my parade
11 Kris Kristofferson - Me and Bobby McGee
12 Laura Marling - Sophia
13 Mull Historical Society - Watching Xanadu
14 New Order - Your silent face
15 Of Monsters And Men - little talks
16 Pogues - The broad majestic Shannon
17 Rachel Sermanni - Waltz
18 Star Wheel Press - Subbuteo (maudlin days)
19 Teen Canteen - Honey
20 Undertones - My perfect cousin
21 Vampire Weekend - Diane Young
22 Waterboys - Fisherman's blues
23 X-Press 2 - Lazy
24 Yazoo - Don't go
25 Zoey Van Goey - Where it lands

As you can see he mysteriously missed out Q. I wonder why. Can anyone suggest the perfect Q track to complete the Alphabet mix?

Would you believe me if I said it was me that did the mix? Looks very familiar. I can't remember why I didn't reveal myself at the time.

I've been through my collection.  I think I would exclude Quad City DJs, Queen Latufah and QotSA and include Quiet Sun.  Phil Manzanera's old band before Roxy.  Their cover of Tomorrow Never Knows is right up my street.
