Fave Christmas Album ?
« on: Fri, Dec 21, 2018, 16:55 PM »
Thought I'd try and get into the spirit of things and attempt a festive thread;

What's your favourite Christmas Album??

Usually, I'd say it's "A Charlie Brown Christmas" by Vince Guaraldi, and have done with it.

But, this year, I've decided that my fave is definitely "Tinsel And Lights" by Tracey Thorn.
 - It's the perfect mix of joy and poignancy, and her version of 'River' is every bit as good as Joni's!

Any other festive faves out there?

Blue Xmas: Christmas Blues Instrumentals (2001) is a great album. Really authentic, rootsy playing, featuring worthies such as Corey Harris, Alvin Youngblood Hart and Kim Wilson.

One of my favourite Christmas songs is Kung Pao Buckaroo Holiday - Brad Paisley

I do like the Boy Least Likely To but my go to Xmas albums are by Low, Mahalia Jackson and Phil Spector. Kate Rusby albums also worth digging out.

Sufjan for me (all ten of them).  Also enjoying Vince Guaraldi, Bright Eyes, Phil Spector, Emmy the Great & Tim Wheeler and the new Aidan Moffat

The Spector one.
Especially now he's a jailbird, making it edgy and that.

In the less prominent list:

Ela Orleans "Christmas Fell Away"
Rotary Connection "Peace"

And this gem of a compilation from "the last century" (Anno Nomadine)

Merry solstice shopping and eating binge folks.

Would the Sufjan album also qualify for album of the year as the ep box set was only released this year?  With 'Worst Christmas Ever" as second best Christmas song after Numero Uno...Withered Hand's " Real Snow"

James Brown’s Funky Christmas.  It’s solid gold all the way (plus a wee bit of frankincense and myrrh).
