Exactly right.   I've been watching celtic connections every night for the last 2 weeks and a lot of it is po faced and serious with dreary songs with poor lyrics.  How privileged we were  to be hearing KC and friends singing and playing songs with great tunes and lyrics - great musicianship and fun,  deep joy in the fundibold. Although he is a total bawbag, of course

We ended up staying in the hut of the 'secret gig' in the forest at Calgary the following year. No electricity and a fear the roof would vanish in a storm one night, braw. I seem to remember a wasp almost bringing an early end to the Calgary gig.

Even as a late-comer I realised things were heading in a drastically different direction at The Eye o the Dug.

Another Q, how did the collaboration with Paul Heaton on PH's The 8th come about? Is he as nice as guy as he seems to be? What was the story he told Maconie about you?

Alas, getting to Canada, for me, or getting to Scotland for MJ isn’t likely to happen anytime soon, and if some sort of C-19 passport is required, not likely to happen at all. I don’t use computers for music, but never say never!

Metronomic duck is alive and well. On one of his travels he cracked his hat, no euphemism intended, but he can still keep time like an impure quartz crystal.

Another Q, how did the collaboration with Paul Heaton on PH's The 8th come about? Is he as nice as guy as he seems to be? What was the story he told Maconie about you?

I’m not entirely sure, but Paul Heaton’s band has connections to both the Earlies and the Salford (Arms?) where Giles from the Earlies works. He is an absolute gent, very, very clever, generous and witty. He collects things. He told Stuart Maconie that I earned a living not from music but by translating the works of Shakespeare into Gaelic.

I never pressed charges for the culprit turned out to be the landlord of somebody playing in my band at the time, all rather awkward. That was one of a few things that put paid to Homegames, the others being reports that locals had been noising up a few punters in a creepy way, accommodation charges in town were now rated off season/peak season/homegame (in that order), and then there was the timely closure of the Hew Scott Hall for roof repairs. I’m gonnae guess 2011, making it HG8? 2012 was Eye o’ the Dugshite, 2013 the best of us were raising fivers for the AIA in the Rugby Club having refused to take any part in the other local event.

I might be wrong about the year.
