I have that Frazier Chorus one on Olde Fashionede 7" single.

The vido for Alanis's original is more enjoyable,
she does a good cover too.

That so works, and I will add another........

1. Steven Wilson - Thank you (alanis machete - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jmqR4Zs1aw)
2. (fat) Elvis - Bridge over troubled water (simon and garfunkels - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBY17ni7Unk)
3. Frazier Chorus - Anarchy in the UK (Sex Pistols - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbMxr5vvNAg)
4. Alanis Machete - My Humps - (black eye'd pies - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W91sqAs-_-g)
5. Everything But The Girl - Time After Time - (Cyndi Lauper - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrKq4JcS58Q)
6. Susanna and the Magical Orchestra - Crazy, Crazy Nights (Ki$$ - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaeKM33TRrU)
7. Mark Kozelek - Up To My Neck In You - (AC/DC - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_TBnDGKKnI)
8. Bruce Springsteen - Dream, baby Dream - (Suicide - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaZRSQfFo8Y)

So, hopefully you get the feel, and lets add to this.  Deconstruct or add as you wish but at let's discuss the merits of an addition.

To sum up to date, each version is without melancholic, I will concede to that much.  BUT each version listed so far has a magical, almost inspirational element.  The pop, contemplative, rock element of the original has been deconstructed, complemented and enhanced.  Without going into detail on each track and expounding the virtues, the covers, not the youtube videos,  speak volumes.

Please add but also lets not make this a list of KC covers which is a different thread.

Some great choices in there Deegers, I'd say The Clash Police & Thieves, Talking Head Take Me To The River & Rod's Reason To Believe are my favourites from the list. It'll give me something to think about at work tomorrow, I'll get back to you.

None of those would be in my top 50, although I like a lot of them.  When it's described as the 'independent top 50' does that mean someone who works at the indie, a journalist of a certain age? the cleaner?
Love Johnnie Cash - Hurt, and Bryan Ferry - Hard rains gonna fall, Siouxsie - Dear Prudence , and others too.  You could easily knock up a list of 200.

One of my favourite covers ever is Sonny Boy Williamson, Milky White Way. What about Vigilante Man, Ry Cooder?  I mean really?

well I never - I thought they had split up.  I only came across them because my brother joined them after Danny Wilson split up.  If I remember rightly they were on the cusp of a big tour when my brother joined, then the plug was pulled.  I assumed they had gone their separate ways.  I had a cassette of 'Sue' at the time but it is lost somewhere deep in the bowels of my garage.  On the back of your post, I went online and bought the CD which I am burning as I type...

This may well divide opinions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KJjVMqNIgA

Hellsongs have some beauties - Songs In The Key Of 666 is a cracking wee covers record. Here's my favourite (natch): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THM0eDqAzmU

This makes perfect sense: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xxh492o2aM&list=RDcYJUywl7CFw&index=9

And I'm not sure this list would be complete without some Nouvelle Vague: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6abR6LmNOc&index=5&list=PLTUlTwlsdlFRA92B3MPZ12dYIAOIcVghZ
