Common Ground by Rob Cowen a beautiful lyrical book about the importance of the natural world.

As it was recommended by Billy Connolly on his recent TV show 'Made in Scotland' I bought a copy of 'The Confederacy of Dunces' by John Kennedy Toole and so far its a cracking read.

Life Is Elsewhere. Milan Kundera.
Haven't read anything by him for a while, and strangely that Eastern Europe, vaguely highbrow, vaguely bohemian-pervy is just the ticket for a miserable january weekend. Goes well with the soup and long nights.

Rereading Margiad Evans's moving, poetic account of the onset of her epilepsy when she was around 40: "A Ray of Darkness" (1952). Highly resonant for anyone who suffers or has suffered from this condition.
She was an excellent novelist and poet too.
